TAKE A METER READING ON 30th SEPTEMBER TO PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST THE ENERGY PRICE CAP RISE

Orkney Housing Association is suggesting that tenants should take electricity meter readings this Friday, 30th September to avoid paying too much for their energy when the price cap hike comes in on 1st October.
To avoid any issues with direct debits and potentially over or under paying around the price cap rise households, and especially those on Standard Variable Tariffs, should take and submit a reading on the day before the rise.
Energy Officer Robert Leslie said: “Despite the Energy Price Guarantee, electricity prices will still rise by around 25% from Saturday, 1st October. Submitting a reading on 30th September will avoid your supplier sending you an estimate that might lead to higher charges.”
“National fuel poverty charity Energy Action Scotland says that collectively if we don’t provide up-to-date meter readings then Scotland will pay at least an additional £3 million every single day that our meters are out.
“Generally, the advice would be to keep in contact with your supplier if you have concerns about your direct debit or how you are paying off any energy debt. Your supplier has a duty to discuss these issues with customers. It is possible to reduce direct debit levels in line with usage, and to arrange longer periods for debt repayment.”
If you would like further advice on energy usage please contact Robert Leslie, Energy Officer, on 875253 ext 404 or at robert.leslie@ohal.org.uk
